There is also a lot of users that download music illegally. This is agaist netiquette, but on the other hand it is almost like free advertising for the artists. Do you feel illegally downloaded has any positive attributes at all?

Pirating music hurts current recording artists because it takes away money from them (Bennett, 2005). It also hurts new artists too because producers will not sign new artists if they are not making enough money due to pirated music (Bennett, 2005). However, allowing people to download music can help bands who are not well known become popular (Romatoski, 2007). The internet can also help bands who are hard to find make money because people can sample their music and then use the internet to purchase their cd (Romatoski, 2007). I think that pirating music could hurt the music industry because if the number of songs being pirated increases and people stop buying cds there is going to be no way for artists to make money. I think that songs should be able to be sampled, so that you can hear most of a song or a few songs from a cd, in order for the fan base to expand and for people to get excited about upcoming releases.
